The building is done, but more green elements are on the way!

We moved into our new building at the end of August and love our new location! There is so much to like in our new facility, but I would say the fact that we now have sunlight streaming in through all of the wonderful windows and lighting up our workspaces is probably one of my favorite changes.

While the building construction is done, we are still adding green elements to our facility. A bicycle rack made of recycled plastic lumber, a rain garden planted in our detention area are two new items we have put in place.

Spring 2010 will see the installation of awnings made of solar photovoltaic panels along the south face of our building. So by Earthday we hope to be generating some of our own electricity!

So keep an eye out for the awnings as you drive along Tapp Road later this Spring.

Also...if you sign up for the Green Building Tour that will take place on April 17th and you will get to tour World Wide Automotive Service as one of the stops on the tour.

Welcome to our New Building Blog!

Well it has taken us several years, but we have finally broken ground on our green facility. Over our almost 14 years in business World Wide Automotive Service has won recognition at both the local and state level for its committment to protecting the environment. In the building we currently lease, we have achieved every environmental goal we could short of a major building remodel. So with the new building we will finally have the chance to start from scratch designing a building suited to both our business needs and our environmental goals.

We will be posting photos as the construction progresses and providing information on the green features we will be including in the project.

The first photos were kind of hard to post.
It was really sad to see all the trees come down at the site to make way for the building and parking areas. We hosted the first plant rescue at a business construction site in May 2006, shortly after we bought the land, to help find homes for as many plants as possible.

The first green feature will probably be installed later this month, if the weather stays kind. It will involved the trenching and laying of the piping for the geothermal system.
So check back in a week or so and watch us grow greener.

A few of the new facility's green features

  • On demand hot water
  • Structural Steel building (recycled & recyclable)
  • Dual flush toilets
  • BiFacial Photo Voltaic awnings
  • Daylight & window views in all work areas
  • T5 high Efficiency Lighting
  • "Cool Roof" roofing technology
  • Radiant in slab & floor heating system
  • Geothermal Heating & Cooling
